Hippo Diary

Saturday 12 August

Today, I decided to leave my homework for tomorrow and show Sam The Hippo around the house. Sam was struggling to walk around the house, because she was pretty much knocking over everything she walked past. My parents were quite mad, because their favourite snow globe got knocked over. When I took Sam to the garden, Sam started running towards Charlie and Charlie started barking. I tried to make them get along, but they just ended up attacking eachother.

Sunday 13 August

When I woke up, I saw that Sam was awake already. He was just standing by the kitchen table, so guessed that he was hungry. I looked in the fridge for some fruit, but all I could see were two bananas. I looked in the garage and saw a pack of apples on the floor. I didn't know if I could feed it to Sam, so i went to go ask my parents, but I saw that they were sleeping. I just opened the pack anyway. I fed 5 apples to Sam, and I saw that there were only 3 apples left in the pack, so I just fed him the other two bananas. 

Monday 14 August

I had to go to school today, so I woke up extra early to feed her. When I was at school, I was worried and I couldn't stop thinking about Sam, because I didn't want to come back home seing Sam leaving the house as a mess. When I came home, I saw Sam sleeping on her new bed that my parents just bought for her. When she woke up, I took her to the lake by the park, do she could cool down. I also bought a phew slices pf watermelon with me just in case she got hungry. When we got home, I took her back to her new bed so she could sleep.

My Draak

My draak se naam is Starlight. Met sy groot vlerke, kan hy baie vinnig vlieg. Die kleur van my draak se groot oë is geel. Sy vlerke is baie sterk. Ander drake het vyf tone, maar my draak het drie tone. Sy naels is baie skerp. My draak het baie lang arms en bene. Daar is groot en klein spykers op Stralight se rug. Die spykers op haar rug vloei in die wind as sy vlieg. Starlight se wenkbroue is baie dik. My draak het drie kleure, pers, geel, blou en swart. Sy het baie skerp tande. Starlight kan baie goed met sy ore hoor

 

Op Elf Jaar Oud....

My gunsteling kleur is turkoois. Ek hou van die lied "Out of the Woods" deur Taylor Swift.  Ek hou baie van lasagne. My beste vriende se name is Hannah, Sonwabe, Kyla en Gabi. My stokperdjie is ballet, want ek het baie ballet geoeten. Ek speel netbal by die skool en ek is vleuel aanval. My gunsteling TV-program is "Sonic Boom" en die hoofkarakter se naam is Sonic. Die lekkerste boek wat ek nog gelees het is Dork Diaries. Ek sal 'n aktrise word wanneer ek ouer is. Ek het baie respek vir my familie en my vriende.

Ek sal graag in die A-span vir netbal wil speel. Ek wil baie goeie punte te kry vir my toetse. Ek sal nie te veel op my iPad speel nie. Ek sal nie afgelei word deur ander dinge nie.

 

Living in an informal Settlement

I am a 12 year old girl, I have1 mom, 4 sisters and 3 brothers.I was busy in my sister and I's room,trying to learn how to read. I felt very uncomfortable and hungry, I couldn't study with an empty stomach. My tummy was grumbling so much,I felt like I was gonna puke. I knew if I asked my mom for more food, she would start to stress a lot, because we hardly have any food to feed our family.I always wanted to become a doctor when I was older so I could help the people that were suffering diseases or any type of sickness.I wanted to make a difference in this world.

The next day, I had to wake up at 5:00 and school started at 5:30.I only had half an hour to get  ready.My sisters and I all got ready by 5:26 and we all went to school.The school was very far away from our home and it was raining so hard. While I was walking to school, I tried to find something to walk under so I could keep dry, but it was no use. I came to school soaking wet, as if someone had poured a huge bucket of water over me.I felt so uncomfortable sitting with 7 people in one desk, especially when we were all covered with mud.Everyone at my desk had to share 1 textbook. When me and 2 other people were done, I was dying to flip the page.I had to spend 18 minutes waiting for the other 4 people to finish their last math sums.At break time,Hannah and I played soccer on a small field with a few boys. We had no grass on our field, only dirt and stones.While we were playing soccer, I slipped on the mud and scraped my knee across the stones.I went to the teacher to get some help, but they didn't have a first aid kit, so when I was doing my homework at my desk, I was struggling to sit properly.I didn't feel comfortable at all, not one bit.

 

Grade 5 Camp

.On Wednesday, we went onto the bus. I was sitting next to Hannah. I got bored, so I read a book called "Dork Diaries Drama Queen". When we arrived at High Africa, we went to a room where the staff could introduce themselves and tell us the rules.After that, we went to our cabins to unpack our stuff. I was in the same cabin as Hannah, Mylaya, Ashleigh and Gabi. I had to sleep at the bottom bunk, because my other friends wanted to sleep at the top. The whistle blew, and we went back to the same room. We started our activities and I was in group 2. I was glad that I was in team as Hannah. We came up with a name and walk ride. Our group name was called "Pineapple Rebels", but our walk ride was a fail. We hadn't finished our walk ride in time, so we just said any random thing that rhymed with Pineapple Rebels. It was a bit challenging, because most of us couldn't share ideas with each other, and the "bossy" people did all the work. During the middle of the day, we started our activities. My group's first activity was in a room. We had to put our chairs everywhere for all of us, but we added an extra chair. To play the game, one of the staff had to try to sit on an empty chair, but we had to try to stop him by sitting on the chair he is walking to. The rules are: you can't move your chair and you can't run. At night, we ate our dinner, and we cooked dough (for a starter) and we ate chicken. The dinner was DELICIOUS! After dinner, we went night hiking. Sonwabe and I were walking together. It was so scary, because some of the boys were lying on the floor and pretended to be dead people.

On Thursday, my friends and I woke up, I woke up because our neighbors were screaming a lot. We went outside to do our activities and we did boat riding. We made our own boat and had races in the river. After that,we had our free time, so my friends and I went to swim in the river. When free time was over, we had chicken and salad for lunch. When we finished lunch, we had free time and started our next activity.Group two did "the leap of faith" it was quite scary, because it was high. After our last activity, we went to have dinner and went to our cabins to go to sleep.Before my cabin went to sleep, our neighbors came over to have a party , but it was really short.When we all got tired, we went to sleep.

On Friday, I woke up again from our neighbors.my friends and I started packing up first, then we had breakfast. I had a pancake with syrup,toast with peanut butter and juice. When we finished eating breakfast, my group and I went to do rock climbing.I only managed to climb a quarter of the climbing board.After that, we had free time. I went to swim in the river with all my friends, but it was really cold. I got used to the water, so my friends and I splashed water at eachother. When free time was over, we had to pack our bags. My friends and I already packed our stuff, so we just chatted to eachother. when our time was over, we all went for a toilet break and went onto the bus. I sat next to Mylaya and we both slept on the bus, because we were really tired from all the activities we did.

Fun In ILT

When we started ILT, I was partners with Mikeya. We had to make a poster about a soil creature, and Mikeya and I decided to do the fennec fox. We had to get material to make a poster. We got a dark-blue poster and some decorations. Our poster was nice and neat but less creative, it still looked really good though. We thought that if we added more decorations, it would look less neat, so we only used pipe-cleaners as worms (because fennec foxes eat worms) and sand paper as soil. The day after we made our poster, we had to do an oral at school and only practice it in 1 hour and 30 minutes. We dicided to do an interview. Mikeya was the interviewer and I was the person that answered the questions. We wrote our sentences on a clipboard that Mikeya bought to school. What I enjoyed the most was making the poster.

My First Few Weeks In Grade Five

On the first day, I saw that I was sitting next to Kyla, Mylaya and Cayden. Mylaya was a new student to Elkanah, so we became friends ever since we started sitting in the same desk. There was also another new student, Hannah. Hannah and I also became friends.On Friday, we had a beach outing, and we were swimming in the sea. The sea was very cold, but my friends and I went really deep. We went to the rock pools and the water was very warm compare to the ocean.
